Dear Waterview Community,

Summer is approaching, and you can feel it in the air around here. But there is still much work to do! Four out of five trips are safely home, exams are continuing, and the list of events till the end of the year is long. Here are some highlights!

7th Grade Quebec Trip

The 7th graders all made it back safely after a wonderful experience in Quebec, and we are very happy to have them all back at school. Their last couple of days in Quebec were beautiful and sunny, which made all the walking that much more pleasant. Here are the links to some of the places they visited: Musee de la civilisation : https://www.mcq.org/fr/
CDSP : https://cdsp.qc.ca/offre-dactivites/conference-demonstration/
Chutes de Montmorency : https://www.sepaq.com/destinations/parc-chute-montmorency/index.dot?language_id=2
A huge thank you to their chaperones: Jeanne Lebourg, Bobby Reese, Eva Macian and Barbara Piper. They took excellent care of our students and we are so grateful!

5th Grade Quebec Trip

The 5th graders are in Quebec right now, so we’re wishing them a wonderful trip, too. So far, everything is going well, and we are once again grateful to the chaperones who are taking care of our students: Patricia Lelay, Aurelie Dubourg, Gilles Burtz, Kavita Trivedi, Diana Darwish and Kerry Briard. They return on May 26, and we look forward to hearing all their stories.

Global Cartography

As we mentioned a few letters ago, Olivia and Albane made it through to the semi-finals of the cartography contest. They have just submitted their next map about the Philippines in globalization, so we are waiting in anticipation to see how they do. We’ll keep you posted. https://www.concourscarto.com/carte/philippines-dallas-b13/
And our other Geography students are hard at work, too. Living on Earth in 2052, the 9th, 10th and some 12th graders projected themselves into the future. The maps are on display this week in the MPR. In 2052, global warming has transformed our territories, but people have tried to find solutions. The goal is to start from the current conditions and to make these territories attractive and dynamic, to improve living conditions and to fight against global warming. The same subjects were proposed to the students of the Charles Péguy High School in Gorges near Nantes in France. All the maps will be exhibited at the bookstore La Géothèque in Nantes during the Nature Nomade Festival in November 2022. So our students are literally putting DIS on the map! Thanks, Mme Masson!

Chess Tournament

Nearly 20 schools in North America participated in the AEFE chess competition, which took  place over the last two Saturdays. DIS was well represented and we are proud to announce that Roman Gerst did wonderfully well as he put DIS "on the Chessboard'' with a first place in the High School category. It was a pleasure to see the commendable good spirit of all chess players, and we are grateful to Mme. Laforest and the organizers who did so well, juggling all the intricacies of the tournament.

We’ll see the 7th graders and their parents at the 7th Grade Social on Friday evening, and we  hope to see many of you at the Global Walk for Water on Saturday at 10am at the Waterview Campus. Sunday is the 6th grade arts showcase at 2pm, so there is plenty to do this weekend! We wish you all a wonderful week!

Warm regards,
Patty
