Dear Waterview Community:

We hope everyone has had a good week. Our students have been busy, working hard and having fun along the way. Here’s what’s been going on around the Waterview Campus.

Spring Fling - “Get Your Glow On” Boum - Friday, February 24

A huge thank you to the PTO and our volunteers, as well as the student affairs team, for a wonderful evening for our students. They had a blast and the photos effectively capture the atmosphere created by the “Get Your Glow On” theme. The students will remember this one for years to come!

Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum - Friday, February 24

Our High School students visited this important museum in Dallas with Mme Lebourg for a day of history and civic education. Students learned about the 3000-year history of the Jewish people and about the persecution they experienced that led to the genocide of six million people during the Holocaust. Then, the Human Rights Wing shows just how the world progressed in the years following the Holocaust (the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg and creation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights among other things). The visit was followed by a film presentation retracing the events of the Holocaust through survivors’ testimonies. Finally, the students learned more about the “Ten Stages of Genocide” through a very informative exhibit and history talk led by one of the museum’s guides. The Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum will organize a guided tour in French on March 26 at 2:00 p.m. if any of our francophone families are interested in attending.

5th Grade Language Presentation - February 27

The DIS language teachers presented the languages coming up in 6th grade to our 5th grade students in the MPR on Monday. In 6th grade, these students will have the opportunity to choose German if they wish to learn a new language. Ms. Hatt led the presentation as Head of the World Languages Department, and she was joined by Mr. Padron, Ms. Calles (Spanish), Ms. Wu and Ms. Hutchinson (Mandarin). Our students are indeed fortunate to have three language options in Middle School as well as English and French. Global Citizenship and Academic Ambition in action!

12th Grade French Baccalaureate Mock Exams - February 27-28

On Monday and Tuesday of this week, our 12th grade students had the chance to practice for their final examinations. We are so glad we can offer them the opportunity to take these tests under exam conditions, exactly as if they were the real thing. This helps them see the areas they need to focus on while there is still time to do something about it, and they become accustomed to all the exam protocols. Thank you to Mme Dorbath for her excellent organization and to all the proctors.

Voyage en France Departure Meeting - March 1

On Wednesday evening, Ms. Doux and Ms. Carmichael led the parents through a presentation of all the final details before our students leave for France on March 22. They were well prepared to answer all the parents’ questions and we hope everyone received the information they needed. Our 9th graders are in for the trip of a lifetime and we are so grateful for all the work that has gone into making this possible for your children. Thank you to Jennifer Carmichael, our trip Coordinator, and our chaperones: Ms. Doux, Mr. Burtz and Coach Taylor. They will be creating a blog so we can follow along as they explore Rennes, St. Malo, Caen and Paris.

Immersion Students Taking DELF Exams March 2-3

On Thursday and Friday, March 2-3, our 5th through 8th grade students in the French Language Immersion Program (FLIP) took the DELF exam to demonstrate their proficiency in French. We will not immediately how they did because their tests are sent to France and evaluated there by the French Ministry of Education. But Mme Baudry and Mme Damour have great faith in our students, as do we! We are proud of them already for everything they have achieved in learning French this year for the first time.

More to come next week. Until then, we wish you an excellent weekend and we’ll keep you updated next week on what’s been going on here on Waterview.

Warm regards,

Patty
