Dear Churchill Community,

Math was the focus this week on the Churchill campus! All students from TPS to CM1 participated with enthusiasm in different activities proposed by our teachers during this math marathon.

The TPS teachers created a fun and diverse program developing math concepts and social skills. From shapes to sizes, our little ones were immersed in math games mixing students from A, B and C classes to create more interactions between this group age.

What is more fun than learning to count using ice cream scopes in PS? The young mathematicians played with dice, created algorithms with legos, and used manipulation techniques during the rigorous week.

MS students worked on different concepts like recognizing and adding numbers in a fun and interactive approach. Exploring and experimenting with numbers helps build our students learning concepts at a young age.

The GS A and B classes had an entertaining activity around math and arts. Taking inspiration from the painting “Castle in the Sun'' by the famous artist Paul Klee, they created their work of art using geometric shapes.

The Immersion first graders have been working with the GS C and D students on creating a model and map of the Churchill campus. This model requires students to identify the various geometric shapes at school through the design of an orientation game which they plan to share with other students.

Each day of the week, the CP students solved math questions based on riddles. They finished the week with board game challenges that thematically surrounded the riddle concept.

CE1 invented their own math problems for their peers to solve. On Friday, the three classes were all together and participated in the Math Rally in the morning.

CE2 practiced their math skills while playing games each day, including a bingo of numbers, the Money Game, the Shapes Game, the Clock Game, and the Guess Who Game.

In CM1, students discovered some of the famous mathematicians of our world like Maryam Mirzakhani, Dorothy Johnson Vaughan, Évariste Galois or Cédric Villani. Each group wrote a short biography of one of them and then presented it to the rest of the class.

In US Math, students were given a treasure box. Students had to solve the mystery using their math skills to unlock the treasure. This was a collective effort and in the end, students were successful and received a prize.

The escape game was the finale for the Math Rally week for all elementary grades. The students were bursting with excitement and enjoyed this bonding experience.

It was a fun and instructive week for our little mathematicians!
