Weekly School Updates

Dear Churchill Community,

News from Churchill Campus 

GS has just completed the second part of the Sound and Museum Project, which is a collaboration between Mission laïque française and the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Paris. For this lesson, the students built a photo camera. With the help of a horn and a needle they also produced sound from a vinyl record.

The CE2 students are back in class after their fantastic trip to Canada and are studying the vocabulary of winter. They are also painting a "Nature morte" (still life) inspired by the French painter Paul Cézanne and learning about the contrast between cold and warm colors. They are reading a book called Le goût du ciel where the main character can fly.

Immersion CE2 students are learning to use the compass and French geometry vocabulary: cercle, pointe, mine, centre, milieu and tracer.

Math Week

Math Week has begun and will continue until March 15th. Lots of math activities and projects are going on in every grade level.

MS and GS students did a great project using various materials of many shapes to create a car. They also learned how to read the instructions for making the car. They studied the science of construction and how to use everyday materials to make a product. They are also learning to play a new card game which allows them to work on the decompositions of number 5 and they are solving small problems in pictures.

CM1 Trip to Canada

This week, it was the turn of the CM1 to go to Canada at Le P'tit bonheur in Québec. The students really enjoyed themselves with fun activities like snow tubing, riding a snow scooter, dog sledding and cross country skiing. They also enjoyed a very traditional meal at the Sugar Shack and they ate "la tire" (a lollipop made with warm maple syrup that cools down on snow). They learned a lot of new French words from Canada!
