Summer Enrichment Camp

Each year, the DIS Language Institute offers a Summer Enrichment Program open to all. Children and parents alike can enjoy this 6-week adventure. Come visit us! Click here  to schedule a summer camp tour to see what our program is all about.
The students may register for a half-day or a full day combining any of the languages or activities offered. They are required to attend a minimum of three weeks out of the six-week session. There is no level of fluency required and speakers of all levels are welcome. Children are placed according to their age and previous exposure to the language.

Program Offerings

  • Language Immersion

    English for International Students (Ages 5 and up)
    Combining formal instruction and fun activities, this intensive ESL program will enable our international students to improve their conversational skills as well as their mastery of the written language.

    Example of a typical day:
    • 1 period of group class instruction
    • 1 period of supervised language lab
    • 1 period of conversation practice
    • 1 period of recreational activity
    Groups are arranged by age and level.

    For All Children (Ages 3-10)
    In this 6-week program the children are placed in immersion classes which put emphasis on the acquisition of conversational skills through fun activities. Children learn the basics of the language studied as well as aspects of the culture. Arts and crafts as well as other more physical activities such as gymnastics, yoga or dance are also included in the program. Classroom activities are conducted in the language studied. The languages currently offered are Arabic, Chinese, English, French and Spanish.

    For Teenagers (Ages 11-19)
    Native Chinese, French and Spanish speakers teach these language classes using our interactive methods. While the main focus is on conversation, all four skills (speaking, writing, listening comprehension and reading comprehension) are covered during this workshop.

    For DIS Students
    Classes that are dedicated exclusively to DIS students are the following:
    • The CP Prep Camp: this is an all-day French camp for children enrolled in Grande Section

    For Parents
    A wonderful opportunity for parents to bond with their children as they share in the experience of learning a new language. These half-day group classes encourage conversation in the language and provide a fun and relaxed environment for interactive learning. Classes meet daily for 3 hours.
  • Art Camps

    Artistes en Herbe (Ages 3-4)
    Artistes en Herbe (budding artists) is an arts and crafts workshop entirely conducted in French. This will enable your little ones to keep working on their language skills while engaging in definitely fun and creative artistic experiences. This workshop is more appropriate for children who already speak some French.

    Kaleidoscope (Ages 5-6)
    This is a half-day workshop in which our campers will explore various techniques and the fascinating world of colors. They will use their creative minds to produce little masterpieces. This workshop will be conducted in English.

    Summer Sculpting (Ages 5-10)
    This class is for kids who love art. Throughout the camp, different mediums and techniques will be explored, including—but not limited to—Styrofoam, plaster bandage, drawing and painting, while creating sculptures. Our campers will also learn about artists who relate to these mediums, reflect on their own art and the artwork of others.

    Stitch and Stuff Creations (Ages 7-10)
    Make a fashionable princess, magical bird, or a goofy robot in Ms. Jelena's sewing class. Learn about design while keeping your hands busy with needles, sparkly threads, fuzzy fabrics, and sewing machine. In this class you will create a unique keepsake to take home.
    Bon Appetit! (Ages 5-17)
    Learn to cook French meals and desserts! In this class, students will dive into a fun and interactive cooking experience. They will learn about fresh food and cooking techniques. Each day, we will discover a different menu and the dishes are prepared from scratch. The best part is that your young chefs will take home a delicious homemade treat to share with the family. This course is taught in both English and French.
    Photography (Ages: 5th to 12th Grade) Waterview Camp
    “A good snapshot keeps a moment from running away” E. Welty

    This fun digital photography workshop teaches students how to use the elements of photography to take better shots and develop their interest in the art of digital photography. Your young photographers will learn how to operate and care for a camera, be introduced to the various genres of photography, practice taking pictures and learn to look for light, shadows, shapes and more. We will work on editing our photos, and then choose our favorite one to be printed and taken home.
    Recording studio (Ages: 5th to 12th Grade) Waterview Camp
    Get the studio experience! Choose an existing song or write an original, rehearse it and record it during one week this summer. Students learn studio basics as well as how to arrange and rehearse a song. Register as a solo student or with friends! All instrumentalists and vocalists welcome. The result is a professional recording of your work! ​
    Let the Tables Turn (DJ Camp) (Ages: 5th to 12th Grade) Waterview Camp
    Learn to create a special atmosphere with music in this fun and creative DJ camp. Your DJ instructor will teach the technical skills needed to smoothly transition each track to the next. The class will cover: Beatmatching, Mixing, Track Structure, Blending and more.
  • Sports and Games

    Tennis Camp (Ages 5 and up)
    In this half-day morning camp the students start the day with warm-up exercises followed by level-appropriate training: eye-hand coordination, balance, footwork, grip, and strokes. Students must bring their own racket.

    Basketball Camp (Ages 7-10)
    The number of skills involved in playing basketball makes this sport a fascinating and challenging one. Our campers will work on developing these skills to become not only better team players but also complete athletes.They will be coached to give their best and RISE.

    OmniSports (Ages 5 and up)
    Sportsmanship, team work and self-confidence are some of the skills our campers will acquire while playing games in a positive and fun learning environment.

    The Chess Minds (Ages 5-10)
    From basic moves to complex tactics and strategies, there will be plenty to learn in these exciting chess camps, led by ChessTempo. While learning tactics and strategies, our campers will develop skills such as critical thinking and concentration and enhance their mental discipline. Each session will include outside of the box puzzles proven to be excellent in developing children’s minds. All levels are welcome.
  • Academic Camps at Waterview

    Get ready for the World (Ages: 9 to 12th grade) Waterview Camp
    This workshop is designed to guide students toward finding their interests and strengths, and setting future educational and career goals. We will explore personal interests, learn about self-awareness, discover personality traits and set goals for our future! We will also learn presentation and interviewing skills for college or work, how to write formal messages (emails, letters), how to draft reports (research paper, business proposal.) Whether your campers will soon apply for college, or go to their first job interview, they will be Ready for the World after completing this course.

    Creative Writing (Ages: 5 to 12th grade) Waterview Camp
    Creative Writing is designed for students to create original forms of descriptive writing, poetry, drama and fiction. Students will practice writing on the following themes: narration, definition, process analysis, cause and effect, and comparison/contrast. We will explore vocabulary development, all through the realm of creative writing techniques. The goal is to help students improve their self-expression and self-editing skills. Creative writing is offered within a course of 3 weeks, and each week we will focus on a different material.

    The Personal Essay (Ages: 9 to 12th grade) Waterview Camp
    This course guides writers through elements of how to write a personal essay, helping them identify values expressed in their stories and to bring readers into the experiences described. In “The Personal Essay,” we write from personal experience, learn to think about it and to articulate it, in a style useful in all modes of college-admission and college-work. The most important texts for the course are the essays of students, but we also read and discuss personal memoirs.
    College Essay Writing (Ages: 9 to 12th grade) Waterview Camp
    Looking for a course to sharpen your writing skills and prepare for the college essay process? Well, here's your chance! This class will give students the necessary direction to create an original and effective essay. We will learn how to choose appropriate topics and themes, how to structure essays as a coherent and flowing piece, and how to convey ideas through engaging and active language.
  • Science and Technology

    Mindcraft Camp (Ages 7-10)
    Challenge Island™ Mindcraft camp turns the digital world of Minecraft into real-world, creative fun for kids. Tribes build their own shelters, tools and crafting tables. They tackle creepers, zombies and other mobs, and design their very own mine trains. This incredible camp is sure to sell out fast, so secure your child’s spot in the sandbox today!
    Emoji Camp (Ages 7-10)
    Challenge Island Kids HEART Emojis and we HEART Challenge Island Kids so we created an all new camp that turns those cute little yellow faces into action packed STEAM adventures!  From Silly Emoji Day to Scary Emoji Day to Sunglasses Cool Emoji Day, our Challenge Island tribes will be crying tears of joy as they ride their unicorns into a texting-icon-inspired world they will never forget.     Little Medical School (Ages: 5-13)
    The mission of Little Medical School® is to teach elementary and middle school children about the exciting field of medicine. Through hands-on demonstrations, crafts, and games, children are actively engaged as they explore the world of medicine. Kids will discover how the body and organs work, how to use medical instruments, administer first aid and even tie knots like a real surgeon. After completing the course, each child will receive a working stethoscope, a graduation diploma, and much more! Classes are designed and developed by a team of board-certified and trained physicians.
    Little Veterinarian School (Ages: 5-13)
    Little Veterinarian School® encourages elementary school children to role play and explore the exciting world of veterinarians. Using interactive demonstrations, crafts and games, kids learn how to take care of a pet and use instruments that real veterinarians use. Little Veterinarian School® brings medicine, science and the importance of health to children in an entertaining and engaging way. Children have fun and learn at the same time. After completing the course, each child can take home a stuffed pet and much more! Classes are designed and developed by a team of board-certified and trained physicians.
    Girls and Dolls (Ages: 5-10)
    Our original Girls and Dolls Camp features Julie’s Groovy Day, Lea Clarke’s Rainforest Day, Spa and Style Day and much more. In this STEAM-sational camp, you will take an unforgettable romp through the ages with historical dolls and inspire, dream and imagine with favorite Girls of the Year.

    Maui & Moana Island (Ages: 7-10)
    Calling all adventurous boys, girls and demi-gods to an action-packed voyage through the ancient South Pacific. You and your tribe will take on a boatload of Oceanic STEAM challenges from battling enormous sea creatures to navigating treacherous underworlds to erupting the fiery volcanic spirit of Te Ka. This unforgettable Challenge Island® camp promises to hook and steal the heart of every Maui and Moana fan.

    Super Hero (Ages: 7-10)
    Wham! Bam! Pow! Kaboom! Calling all Super Kids to Challenge Island® Super Hero Camp! Tribes will channel their extraordinary powers into a universe of challenges inspired by Bat Man, Bat Girl, Super Man, Wonder Woman and many more. This popular camp is a super heroic STEAM adventure for every boy and girl!

    3D Modeling Using Tinkercad (5th & 6th grades) Waterview Camp
    Tinkercad is a 3D design tool that is easy and understandable. Students will learn the basics of 3D : cameras, objects, X-Y-Z axes and how to manipulate a 3D environment using funny short period exercises.
    Scratch Coding (Ages: 5th to 8th grade) Waterview Camp
    Technology is everywhere! Learning Coding skills will take our students from being passive participants in the digital world to active players in the field of technology. In this class, students will learn to code in Scratch, and acquire important strategies for problem solving, designing projects, and communicating ideas. The basics of programming are easier to understand with Scratch because it is visual.

    Programming in Swift (Ages: 7 to 12th grade) Waterview Camp
    This class's goal is to understand the basics of MacOS and its environment of development. Swift is an easy to learn, powerful and intuitive programming language for macOS, iOS, watchOS and tvOS. Writing Swift code is interactive and fun, the syntax is concise yet expressive. Students will assimilate the basics of programming in Swift and will apply what they learned through short period projects and exercises.
    Programming with Arduino (Ages: 9 to 12th grade) Waterview Camp
    Arduino is a fundamental tool for understanding the basics of programming and robotic. Using simple functions, students will understand how to manipulate and to control a simple electronic object. At the same time, they will be allowed to reinforce, enrich and structure the knowledge acquired in programming classes and develop the ability to use a programming language in different fields as well as prepare for learning methods, problem solving, reasoning and logic.

  • After Camp Activities

    The Color Wheel (Ages 3-5)
    A fun and relaxing art workshop where our young campers will play with colors using various media. They will use their imagination to explore and create. In the process, they will develop their self-esteem. 

    Origami Studio (Ages 5 and up)

    There's nothing quite like the joy you get from transforming a plain square piece of paper into a container, animal, bird, flower or many other interesting shapes. It always seems to a put smile on our faces when we complete an origami! Origami is fun, easy, inexpensive and great for sharing with others.

    Tennis Workshop (Ages 5 and up)
    From footwork to grip and strokes, our campers will have the opportunity to develop their skills in a fun atmosphere in this 1-hour daily workshop.

    Private Piano Lessons (Ages 5 and up)
    The one-on-one piano lessons are scheduled in 30 minute slots from 3:30 to 6:30. Students are required to sign up for two lessons a week.

    Rise Basketball Camp (Ages 7-10)
    The number of skills involved in playing basketball make this sport a fascinating and challenging one. Our campers will work on developing these skills to become not only better team players but also complete athletes. They will be coached to give their best and RISE.
    Intro to Hip-Hop (Ages 7 and up)
    This energetic workshop will lead you from the basic moves of Hip hop to simple choreographies. In the process, you will develop your sense of musicality and body control.

    Guitar - Waterview Camp
    The one-on-one guitar lessons are scheduled in 30 minute slots from 3:30 to 6:30. Students are required to sign up for two lessons a week.

  • Morning classes are from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

  • Afternoon classes begin at 12:30 and release at 3:30 p.m.

  • From 12:00 to 12:30 a monitored lunch is provided at no additional charge for students who attend the full day program.

  • Before camp care*: 7:30-9:00

  • After camp care*: 3:30-6:00
*Before and after camp care is offered for an additional fee. The children are supervised and offered a variety of activities with which to occupy themselves until camp begins or their parents arrive.
