Summer Enrichment Camp

Each year, the DIS Language Institute offers a Summer Enrichment Program open to all. Children and parents alike can enjoy this 6-week adventure. Come visit us! Click here  to schedule a summer camp tour to see what our program is all about.
The students may register for a half-day or a full day combining any of the languages or activities offered. They are required to attend a minimum of three weeks out of the six-week session. There is no level of fluency required and speakers of all levels are welcome. Children are placed according to their age and previous exposure to the language.

Program Offerings

  • Language Immersion

    English for International Students (Ages 5 and up)
    Combining formal instruction and fun activities, this intensive ESL program will enable our international students to improve their conversational skills as well as their mastery of the written language.

    Example of a typical day:
    • 1 period of group class instruction
    • 1 period of supervised language lab
    • 1 period of conversation practice
    • 1 period of recreational activity
    Groups are arranged by age and level.

    For All Children (Ages 3-10)
    In this 6-week program the children are placed in immersion classes which put emphasis on the acquisition of conversational skills through fun activities. Children learn the basics of the language studied as well as aspects of the culture. Arts and crafts as well as other more physical activities such as gymnastics, yoga or dance are also included in the program. Classroom activities are conducted in the language studied. The languages currently offered are Arabic, Chinese, English, French and Spanish.

    For Teenagers (Ages 11-19)
    Native Chinese, French and Spanish speakers teach these language classes using our interactive methods. While the main focus is on conversation, all four skills (speaking, writing, listening comprehension and reading comprehension) are covered during this workshop.

    For DIS Students
    Classes that are dedicated exclusively to DIS students are the following:
    • The CP Prep Camp: this is an all-day French camp for children enrolled in Grande Section

    For Parents
    A wonderful opportunity for parents to bond with their children as they share in the experience of learning a new language. These half-day group classes encourage conversation in the language and provide a fun and relaxed environment for interactive learning. Classes meet daily for 3 hours.
  • Art Camps

    Artistes en Herbe (Ages 3-4)
    Artistes en Herbe (budding artists) is an arts and crafts workshop entirely conducted in French. This will enable your little ones to keep working on their language skills while engaging in definitely fun and creative artistic experiences. This workshop is more appropriate for children who already speak some French.

    Kaleidoscope (Ages 5-6)
    This is a half-day workshop in which our campers will explore various techniques and the fascinating world of colors. They will use their creative minds to produce little masterpieces. This workshop will be conducted in English.

    Summer Sculpting (Ages 5-10)
    This class is for kids who love art. Throughout the camp, different mediums and techniques will be esplored, including—but not limited to—Styrofoam, plaster bandage, drawing and painting, while creating sculptures. Our campers will also learn about artists who relate to these mediums, reflect on their own art and the artwork of others.

    The Digital Artist (Ages 7-14)
    In these one-week workshops, our Digital Artists will have the opportunity to learn about the basics of photo editing and visual production, explore and experiment to acquire the skills necessary to create compelling images of their own, master their computer skills and develop problem solving strategies. Encouraged to work at her/his own pace, each participant will learn that color adjusting, creating multi-layer collages, and transforming photos can be as fun and engaging as any video game.

    Clay Daze (Ages 7-10)
    Clay is a fascinating material. Our campers' eyes always shine when they squeeze, pound and mold a piece of clay. Using their creativity and different techniques of hand-building, they will learn to produce objects that they will be proud to lend for on-campus exhibits.

    The Magic Brush (Ages 7-10)
    In this mixed media art camp, our campers will use a combination of digital art and classical painting and drawing techniques to express their ideas and produce unique pieces. 

    In Tune (Ages 7-10)
    A keyboard, a couple of percussions and a sense of creativity. This is all it will take our young campers to explore the magic world of music, learn to enjoy different styles and even create short pieces.
  • Sports and Games

    Tennis Camp (Ages 5 and up)
    In this half-day morning camp the students start the day with warm-up exercises followed by level-appropriate training: eye-hand coordination, balance, footwork, grip, and strokes. Students must bring their own racket.

    Basketball Camp (Ages 7-10)
    The number of skills involved in playing basketball makes this sport a fascinating and challenging one. Our campers will work on developing these skills to become not only better team players but also complete athletes.They will be coached to give their best and RISE.

    OmniSports (Ages 5 and up)
    Sportsmanship, team work and self-confidence are some of the skills our campers will acquire while playing games in a positive and fun learning environment.

    The Chess Minds (Ages 5-10)
    From basic moves to complex tactics and strategies, there will be plenty to learn in these exciting chess camps, led by ChessTempo. While learning tactics and strategies, our campers will develop skills such as critical thinking and concentration and enhance their mental discipline. Each session will include outside of the box puzzles proven to be excellent in developing children’s minds. All levels are welcome.
  • Science and Technology

    Mindcraft Camp (Ages 7-10)
    Challenge Island™ ’s Mindcraft camp turns the digital world of Minecraft into real world, creative fun for kids. Tribes build their own shelters, tools, and crafting tables. They tackle creepers, zombies and other mobs, and design their very own mine trains. This incredible camp is sure to sell out fast, so secure your child’s spot in the sandbox today!
    Beach Party (Ages 7-10)
    Are you ready to party this summer with Challenge Island? Join us for a week full of beach-inspired challenges for you and a tribe full of friends. You’ll build and design your own Tribal Tiki Huts, Beach Racers, Cruise Ships, and Boardwalk Rides and Games. You'll even erupt a restless Hawaiian volcano! We’ll wrap up with a not to be missed island beach party complete with music, beach volleyball and fun surprises! Grab a friend, grab a tribe and join us in this one of a kind camp celebration!

    Emoji Camp (Ages 7-10)
    Challenge Island Kids HEART Emojis and we HEART Challenge Island Kids so we created an all new camp that turns those cute little yellow faces into action packed STEAM adventures!  From Silly Emoji Day to Scary Emoji Day to Sunglasses Cool Emoji Day, our Challenge Island tribes will be crying tears of joy as they ride their unicorns into a texting-icon-inspired world they will never forget. This awesome camp promises to be as popular as Emojis themselves, so reserve your spot today!

    Games & Music With Scratch (Ages 7-10)
    Pre-requisite: Animation using Scratch
    This is a camp for students who have covered the basics in “Animations using Scratch”. We will use programming concepts to make music and even use randomness to change the tunes along the way.
    Animations Using Scratch (Ages 7-13)
    MIT Scratch is a GUI based programming environment. While it has a friendly interface that appeals to young children, it has tons of functionality! You can do 2D animations of objects, create cool drawings, make a character sing a tune, develop an interactive game (control it with various inputs including voice!) and even narrate a story with images! This camp is for beginners–no prior experience is required.
    Explore-Coding-Tools (Ages 7-10)
    With the abundance of web-based tools to learn coding, we hope to play with a different tool in every session and get introduced to coding concepts in an enjoyable way. This camp is for novices–no programming background is needed to attend this camp. 

    Coding With Robots (Ages 11-13)
    Pre-requisite (recommended): Animation using Scratch
    Finch robots are tiny USB-powered robots that were developed specifically to learn programming. While these robots can be controlled from programs written in almost dozen languages, we are going to use MIT Scratch – it enables Elementary kids to write a few simple programs for the robot to move around, sense obstacles & light, play tunes etc.! Then, we will look at another sophisticated robot called Scribbler – it is suitable for a wide range of programming skills. In addition to light-seeking, object detection, object avoidance & line-following, it can do art-work: place a Sharpie marker in the pen port andit will draw as it goes around! We will use the Graphical User Interface tile-based programming tools. Finally, we will look at Sphero robotic balls – they enable us to bring several math and science concepts to life!

    Game Maker (Ages 11-13)
    You might have played lots of games. GameMaker is powerful professional quality game design software, yet it is easy for anyone to get on-board, learn the basics and design a video game in a week! Campers will also get introduced to a sandboxed scripting language known as Game Maker Language, which can be used to develop more advanced games that could not be created just by using the drag and drop features. No programming background needed to attend.

  • After Camp Activities

    The Color Wheel (Ages 3-5)
    A fun and relaxing art workshop where our young campers will play with colors using various media. They will use their imagination to explore and create. In the process, they will develop their self-esteem. 

    Origami Studio (Ages 5 and up)

    There's nothing quite like the joy you get from transforming a plain square piece of paper into a container, animal, bird, flower, or many other interesting shapes. It always seems to a put smile on our faces when we complete an origami! Origami is fun, easy, inexpensive and great for sharing with others.

    Tennis Workshop (Ages 5 and up)
    From footwork to grip and strokes, our campers will have the opportunity to develop their skills in a fun atmosphere in this 1-hour daily workshop.

    Private Piano Lessons (Ages 5 and up)
    The one-on-one piano lessons are scheduled in 30 minute slots from 3:30 to 6:30. Students are required to sign up for two lessons a week.

    Rise Basketball Camp (Ages 7-10)
    The number of skills involved in playing basketball make this sport a fascinating and challenging one. Our campers will work on developing these skills to become not only better team players but also complete athletes. They will be coached to give their best and RISE.
    Intro to Hip-Hop (Ages 7 and up)
    This energetic workshop will lead you from the basic moves of Hip hop to simple choreographies. In the process, you will develop your sense of musicality and body control

  • Morning classes are from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

  • Afternoon classes begin at 12:30 and release at 3:30 p.m.

  • From 12:00 to 12:30 a monitored lunch is provided at no additional charge for students who attend the full day program.

  • Before camp care*: 7:30-9:00

  • After camp care*: 3:30-6:00
*Before and after camp care is offered for an additional fee. The children are supervised and offered a variety of activities with which to occupy themselves until camp begins or their parents arrive.
