November 11, 2021, Dallas, Texas- For Immediate Release - Dallas International School (DIS) is excited to announce the high school soccer team has won the TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) State Championship for the 2021 school year. This is the 5th State Title in six years that the school has achieved.
“I am very excited and proud to have been able to coach this very unique and dynamic group of student-athletes,” says Athletic Director,Sergio Franklin. TAPPS awards players by voting for All-District and then players are selectively awarded All-State as the highest honor. Dallas International is proud that five students were awarded All-State Honors which include First Team Offense, Fabrice Afopa (10th grade) and Pierrick Afopa (12th grade), First Team All-State Midfield, Laissa Mbiene (12th grade), First Team All-State Defense, Colas Algudo (12th grade), and Second Team All-State Midfield, Jordon Keener (12th grade). “To have this many players nominated from one team is unheard of,” says Franklin. Pierrick Afopa, Team Captain, says “This is my third year playing for the high school team at DIS, throughout the years I have seen other players play a similar role that I had to play this year. I felt I needed to set up the team for success. It is an honor to be awarded First Team All-State as this is my senior year.”
In the Championship Game, four players are selected as All-Tournament MVPs. Those players were announced at the conclusion of the game as Pierrick Afopa, Liassa Mbien, Colas Algudo, and Leo Baudry (all 12th grade).
