Dallas International School Expands Its Language Immersion Program

November 10, 2021, Dallas, Texas- For Immediate Release - Dallas International School (DIS) is excited to announce the expansion of its innovative Language Immersion Program. The Language Immersion Program was introduced for the 2020-21 school year and currently serves grades 1-3. “The program has exceeded our expectations, and we have seen outstanding results. We currently have a full classroom in grades 1-3 and have seen high demand for this type of program in the older grades,” Admission Director, Kerry Briard, says.

The Language Immersion Program will expand to serve grades 1-7 for the 2022-2023 school year.

Dallas International School currently offers the program for new students who have no previous exposure to the French language. The high-performing immersion program instructs students in French while they learn core subjects. Students develop proficiency in the second language by hearing and using it to learn in the classroom rather than by studying the language itself.

“Our students are receiving a truly immersive cultural experience. This program not only benefits them linguistically as they become bilingual, it also teaches them paradigms and ways of thinking  that do not exist in one language but do in another,” says Dr. Josep González, Head of School. “Being able to think and speak in another language is the first step to becoming a truly intercultural global citizen.”

Research shows that students learning in an immersion setting improve academically and have lifelong cognitive benefits. The goal is for students to become proficient in the second language and develop cultural intelligence (CQ), while reaching a high level of academic achievement.
