![]() Middle School (Cycle 4-6)![]() 6th Grade Through 9th GradeThe Middle School program is naturally aligned to those of the Elementary School, ensuring continuity in the learning process and thus preparing students for High School. The curriculum guides and texts of both French and American school emphasize the development of logical thought, the mastery of reading, writing and imagery, and the pursuit of independent study. Learning the skills of analysis and judgment is very important in preparing students to adapt to a complex and changing world, to come to grips with the changing nature of society in France and America, and, thanks to this understanding, to actively participate in its development. 6th and 7th GradesIn the 6th and 7th grades, students are introduced to both French and American literature. They study excerpts of texts, short stories and poems illustrative of various periods and literary genres. They learn how to read images and develop their ability to criticize and debate. They are taught to work independently and develop a critical mind with an aptitude for abstraction and reasoning, thereby showing them how to create by using and organizing their own knowledge. Through structured and demanding oral and written work, our students gradually improve their command of the language and their ability to express themselves adequately. 8th and 9th GradesIn the 8th and 9th grades, emphasis is on the importance of basic grammar, accurate vocabulary, a contextual approach to reading, as well as the ability to understand and construct an argument and formulate an opinion. Mathematical skills develop around problem solving techniques. Students discover how to create problems and resolve them while assessing accurately the meaning, the relevance and extent of the knowledge used. This ability has a bearing on other subjects and on everyday life through the use of up-to-date communications technology. |
